As with most medical procedures, it is very important to follow the instruction for preparing your body for the test. This allows for best results, with the least amount of discomfort possible.
You must have the Hospital/Endoscopy Registration form completed when you arrive at the Center for your procedure. Please print out the form and bring it with you to your appointment.
- Do not take any aspirin, aspirin containing medication or arthritis medication for five days prior to the procedure unless these medications are doctor recommended or prescribed to prevent stroke or heart stent occlusion. Tylenol or similar acetaminophen medications are allowed.
- Be sure your physician is aware of any medications you are currently using, as well as any medication allergies that you have. In general, you should take any heart or blood pressure medication with a sip of water on the morning of the examination (except blood thinning medicine).
- Be sure to inform your physician if you have heart or kidney disease.
- Do not eat foods with small seeds (e.g. tomatoes, sesame seeds, watermelon, cucumbers, etc.) for three days prior to the procedure.
Golytely and Dulcolax Prep
Expect to have many liquid stools after the preparation is begun and lasting about four or five hours. Colored liquids may produce similar colored stools. Using soft toilet paper and applying vaseline to the skin around the anus will minimize perianal discomfort associated with the diarrhea.
Please arrange for a friend or relative to accompany you home. Additional post-procedure instructions will be given to you at the hospital or facility.
You May Not Drive Yourself Home After The Procedure!
You are advised not to drive the entire day.
